The Department of Art & Design offers a mural class annually. As a class we examine processes and practices in contemporary mural painting. Students acquire knowledge and understanding about how murals have historically functioned and contributed to public arts. They apply that understanding by proposing mural designs to a community client. They implement the approved mural design on-site. The language of visual art, including elements and principles of design and color theory as well as proper professional preparation of mural materials are emphasized throughout the course. This course offering covers three major areas. Mural History, Mural as Business, and Mural Implementation.
